SAXOPHONIST

Saxophonist and composer Maude Fortier hails from Quebec City. She began playing alto saxophone at the age of 11. 

She studied music at La Camaradière high school. As a member of the school band, she played in the junior and senior stage band. where she developed a passion for jazz. She continued her postsecondary studies at Cégep de Sainte-Foy in jazz profile. She won the Prix d'expression musicale in 2021, as well as a scholarship for student merit. Shortly after college, she recorded her first EP Resurgence, out in April 2022. She also performed the music for this album at the T.U Jazz Festival. 

Since then, Maude has made her mark on the Montreal jazz scene. A graduate of McGill University with distinction, she has worked under the direction of Camille Thurman, Jean-Michel Pilc, Rémi Bolduc and Frank Lozano. In addition to being a sought-after accompanist at many of the city's prestigious venues, Maude has been performing with her quartet for the past four years, and has also set up jam session evenings at the Majesthé bar in downtown Montreal (2022-September 2025), as well as at the Le Bureau bar in Montreal's Old Port. In recent years, she has performed with such renowned musicians as Ira Coleman, Darrell Green and Kevin Dean. She was recently featured in Downbeat magazine for her performance with the McGill Vocal Jazz Conglomerate. Maude's musical style is inspired by the jazz tradition, blended with modern musical influences.
